Marshfield Football Clubs

FOOTBALL IN MARSHFIELD - 2018
There is a long history of football in Marshfield but only in 2002 were the teams permanently registered as the Marshfield Football Club (MFC), usually being sponsored by local Businesses and Pubs and playing in various Saturday and Sunday Leagues.

Now, after extensive discussion between the Players and Managers, MFC has made major changes for the 2018/19 season. The management team has been strengthened and, with the emphasis remaining on providing football for those either living in or closely associated with Marshfield, MFC will now be playing on Saturdays in the Trowbridge & District Football League. We believe that this League will provide a higher quality of football across all the teams in their League. It will also offer greater opportunities for the many younger Marshfield players now coming through to MFC from the Marshfield Junior Football teams.

Fixture Notices will continue to be posted in Country Stores: The Lord Nelson and The Catherine Wheel and there will be more promotion of the activities of the Club. Those wishing to contact MFC or just support and follow the Results and progress more closely, will now be able to do so on their new Facebook : Marshfield F C

MFC Juniors continue to be very active and have their own Website, field many teams of all ages, including both boys and girls and their Management work very closely with the “Senior team Management” with, as stated above,  many of their young players now “feeding  through” into the “Seniors”. All ages join together for supervised Training during the week on the special Floodlit Training pitch.

In addition to other facilities at the Withymead Playing Fields, MFC now has two FA approved Senior sized pitches, the second of which is specially marked for use by either Senior or Junior matches. Whilst there is a fixed “Practice Goalpost” off the match pitches, both Senior and Junior teams now use “Roll On/Off” Goalposts. This both protects the goalmouth areas from overuse and enables the appropriate size to be used on the main pitches for some Junior matches whilst there are also three appropriately sized Junior Pitches for the much younger players.

The excellent Pavilion is available for use by any Marshfield Club or Registered User such as the Marshfield Band for their regular practice sessions. It is well equipped with changing rooms, showers and a large “Clubroom” with chairs, tables and a “Bar” with cooking facilities and a Fridge so any User can provide refreshments such as Tea, Coffee, Bacon Baps for their players, visitors and supporters.

MFC (Seniors) however also holds a Special Sub-Licence from South Glocs which permits the bringing alcohol into the Pavilion for Sale and consumption “in the Pavilion and ONLY on the premises ”  to those of permitted age. No alcohol is allowed to be stored in the Pavilion. This facility, together with other fund raising activities, is an essential source of Funds for both the Seniors and Junior  Clubs as they are currently “self-funding” rather than being  sponsored.

In addition to MFC’S NEW Facebook, details of MFC Fixtures or whom to contact about either the Senior or Junior Marshfield Football Clubs are always posted in the Pavilion.
