CRICKET IN MARSHFIELD

www.marshfieldcricketclub.co.uk

Marshfield Cricket Club, founded in 1901, play their home games at “Broadley”, a picturesque ground just on the outskirts of Marshfield. One of the founder members of the Wiltshire League, they are affiliated to both the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Cricket Boards.

They currently run three competitive senior sides on a Saturday and a friendly side on Sundays and during the week. The first and second eleven sides compete in the West of England Premier league Glos/Wilts Division and play their home games at Broadley. The third eleven compete in the Wiltshire Cricket League and play their home games at Withymead Playing Fields.

The MCC also competes in the National Village Knockout Cup where they have had recent success, reaching the National round last 16 on two occasions (in 1996 and 2006) and have won their Gloucestershire group on several occasions.

Youth Cricket is thriving at Marshfield Cricket Club and they currently run four teams – U 11’s, U 13’s, U 15’s and U 17’s. all of which play in the Bristol Youth Cricket League and compete in Regional Cup competitions.

There is a very lively social scene at the club. The pavilion bar is open during all matches and there are also a number of fundraising events throughout the year, including their annual Six-A-Side tournament, Race Night and then on Guy Fawkes Night they host what has become the Village Firework Display together with a special Barbecue and snack bar. As part of their Fundraising they also run a very successful weekly “100 Club” draw attracting many villagers (There is a queue for subscribers !).

The Pavilion is also available for hire for Private functions during the close season.

Cricket tours are often organised, usually to North or South Devon, but in September 2005 they embarked on their first overseas tour to Corfu. This was an excellent experience for the club and similar overseas tours are likely to take place on a regular basis.

Marshfield Cricket Club is very much at the heart village social life, with many of the players living in the village, and their matches are often well supported.
